Our Mission, History & Amenities
Keep Live Music Live. We champion original artistry, fair pay for musicians, honest pours, and a come‑as‑you‑are atmosphere. Whether you’re front‑row for a touring act or nursing a Lone Star at the bar, you’re part of the Dan Electro’s family.
Opened in 1988 inside a low‑slung Heights warehouse, Dan Electro’s Guitar Bar began as just that, a guitar bar.
The first owner lived upstairs and would sell beers along with guitars, amps and other music accessories, hence our name, Dan Electro’s from the brand 👉 Danelectro 👈of pedals, amps & guitars.
Word got around and soon enough Houston’s blues heavyweights came to trade licks after hours. Over the decades the stage has hosted legends, from Stevie Ray Vaughan and Billy Gibbons, to touring acts who popped in unannounced, earning a reputation in the Heights area.
Initially slated to be leveled for more townhomes, a 2022 facelift under new local owners kept the neon and soul intact while upgrading sound, structure and service for a new generation of fans.
Proprietorship has changed hands numerous times throughout the years, with the most recent being Shaun Brennan of Splice Records in early 2024. We’re working on cataloging Dan’s journey from the very beginning but in the meantime, chat with a regular next time you’re in, they’ll give you the scoop that even we can’t.
Our Story — From 1988 to Today
The Venue
Address: 1031 E 24th St, Houston Heights
Capacity: ≈ 200 inside /100 on the tree‑shaded patio
Stage & Sound: 32‑channel digital board, new lighting rig, and a backline tuned for everything from pedal‑steel twang to fuzz‑rock power trios
Design: Wood plank walls, exposed ceiling rafters, vintage gig‑posters, and that iconic guitar‑chasing‑piranha sign out front

Monday — Free Pool All Day & Karaoke Night
A perfect low‑key start to the week, where karaoke and pool lovers unite for a rotating weekly Monday event like: Houston Singer Songwriter Association hosted by Mark Wynters (1st), The Royal Dukes (2nd), Shimmer Show: Burlesque & Variety (3rd).
Tuesday — Shawn Allen’s Music Jam
Houston’s longest‑running open music jam & mixer, Grammy winners have walked in unannounced, 👉 we’re not kidding.
Wednesday — Whiskey Wednesdays & Steak Night
Chef‑cut Houston Prime ribeyes, Milam & Greene whiskey specials, and live honky‑tonk until close.

We run a fully upgraded 32-channel digital soundboard and multi-zone PA setup, delivering crystal-clear audio throughout the venue—including the patio and upstairs lounge. Our dedicated FOH engineers make sure every note, riff, and lyric hits just right.
💡 Lighting System
Custom LED lighting, intelligent washes, and programmable stage effects give each performance a unique visual identity. Whether it’s a moody singer-songwriter set or a full-tilt rock revival, we match the mood to the music.
🪩 Dance Floor
Right in front of the stage, the open floor is where the magic happens. Whether you're two-stepping, headbanging, or just swaying with a drink in hand, it’s where the crowd becomes part of the show.

Artists, relax in our private green room—tucked just behind the main stage and equipped with its own dedicated entry and exit for smooth, discreet access before and after your set.
For select performers, our retro Upstairs Lounge also doubles as an upgraded/additional green room with expanded space, private amenities, and serious atmosphere.
