Headliner:
Dan Weintraub
Jerry Garcia was a fascinating, funny, engaging, joyfully weird and wonderfully approachable guy; he was also a reflective and reluctant and at times tortured soul. In his piece A FRIEND OF MINE, Dan Weintraub shares stories and songs from Jerry’s life that help us both understand and celebrate this quite transcendent character. A touring guitarist and singer for over 40 years, and a Deadhead himself, Dan plays the songs that we recall so fondly. A FRIEND OF MINE is an acoustic concert, a history lesson (Dan taught high school history for those same 40+ years), a thoughtful remembrance and an evening of audience participation that helps us know Jerry better, and that helps us see more clearly why, to so many of us, Jerry was far more than a guitar virtuoso or counter culture icon. He was our friend.
