Mike Hellman is a country and americana troubadour with a bent for the unconventional. Slinging songs with substance, conviction and grit, he's on a mission to tell his truth and he insists on being heard. While firmly rooted in the rich country and blues traditions of his home state of Texas, he refuses to pander to cliché and his sound is anything but predictable. His lively performances swing from ballad to barn burner to outright rock 'n' roll, and his rich baritone conjures earnestness and humor while dealing head-on with all aspects of the human condition (and with a not-so-subtle nod to the downtrodden). An "outlaw" for outlaws, Mike's music transcends the often narrow boundaries set by the mainstream country music establishment.

Houston Music Classifieds is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that started in 2022 as a place to post daily show listings happening in the city. Since then, however, we have expanded from just posting live music events to hosting live music events ourselves. Creating a stronger sense of community within the Houston music scene is a part of our mission, so we strive to bring together musicians and music lovers alike. Another way we support the local scene is by posting interviews with up-and-coming Houston artists, as well as by posting other resources, such as information about local venues and open mics. We are so grateful for the support we have received from the community over the past couple years, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Houston music scene.

The legacy
Dan Electro’s has been the Heights’ neighborhood stage since 1988. It all started with guitarist Teri Greene’s Tuesday Blues Jam and lives on today through host Shawn Allen, whose easy charisma keeps the night loose, inclusive, and absolutely electric. Every riff still echoes that original spirit of community and creative risk-taking.
For musicians
Show up with an instrument, add your name, and plug in around 7:30 PM. Blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and experimental grooves share equal airtime. Veterans swap wisdom, first-timers get genuine encouragement, and surprise guests lift the room higher. Think impromptu master class with a loving crowd. No cover, no ego—just pure collaboration.
For patrons
Not here to play? Perfect. Grab an ice-cold beer or a craft cocktail, slide into a vintage booth, and let Houston’s most eclectic soundtrack wash over you. From smooth jazz to blistering slide-guitar duels, every set feels like a mini-festival. Between songs the covered patio becomes a living social feed where locals, tourists, and pros trade stories under string lights. Tuesday slump cured.
Why it matters
Houston is vast. Finding an authentic room where talent and audience mingle this naturally is rare. What a weird year 2025 was for us all. We at Dan Electros want to end this incredibly weird year with a banger of a showl We are mixing vibes, funk, world reggae and rock n roll for the best local New Year's Concert in Heights Houston. We have Splice Records own Bayou City Funk with Dem roots music will be doing their own sets and some combined music throughout the night, and we have one our favorite young upo and coming bands Charlie Danger's Jet set starting us off as the opener. The upstairs bar area will be open to the public with another vibe upstairs, the fires will be outside in the backyard for warmth, food will be available for purchase with our local food vendor and we want you to come party with us, dance with us and fishi off the year getting weird with us at Dan Electros.
Champagne will be available to purchase a bottle and we will toast the midnight hour with us all! Come party with us.

Join us for a night of rock 'n' roll celebrating Always Right on Time, the new album from Houston's own Yaupon. The band's second full length release showcases their tight, grooving sound with tinges of alt country and classic rock. The packed bill will be opened by local favorites Hate Mail and Charlie Danger's Jet Set. Stick around after the release for a true H-town after party: Yaupon's Rock and Roll Circus - an extended set of spectacular hits performed by Yaupon and a variety of special guests from the local scene.
A group that could only form in Houston, Yaupon is characterized by tight grooves, wistful vocals, virtuosic guitar melodies, and a dynamic live show. Taking inspiration from Wilco, The War on Drugs, and Sheryl Crow, Yaupon creates their own brand of eclectic indie rock. Yaupon's upcoming album, Always Right on Time, explores themes of fatherhood, technology, romance, distance, and living in the moment. It all started with guitarist Teri Greene’s Tuesday Blues Jam and lives on today through host Shawn Allen, whose easy charisma keeps the night loose, inclusive, and absolutely electric. Every riff still echoes that original spirit of community and creative risk-taking.

Show up with an instrument, add your name, and plug in around 7:30 PM. Blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and experimental grooves share equal airtime. Veterans swap wisdom, first-timers get genuine encouragement, and surprise guests lift the room higher. Think impromptu master class with a loving crowd. No cover, no ego—just pure collaboration.

Since then, however, we have expanded from just posting live music events to hosting live music events ourselves. Creating a stronger sense of community within the Houston music scene is a part of our mission, so we strive to bring together musicians and music lovers alike. Another way we support the local scene is by posting interviews with up-and-coming Houston artists, as well as by posting other resources, such as information about local venues and open mics. An intoxicating gumbo of global soul, surf noir, and psychedelic funk, all filtered through a vintage, analog haze. Listening to Gitkin feels like stumbling across a forgotten reel-to-reel in a dusty Havana pawn shop or a smoky Marseilles speakeasy. There’s a deep sense of wanderlust baked into every groove — part spaghetti western, part funk exotica, with twangy guitars that slither like snakes through a desert bazaar.
New Orleans-based Gitkin, also known as Brian J, a Grammy-nominated artist and producer renowned for his production skills (working with Cedric Burnside, Bab L’ Bluz, Bernard Purdie, Cyril Neville) and as the mastermind behind the funk ensemble Pimps Of Joytime, is experiencing surprising success with this passion project.
With monthly streams surpassing 300,000, Gitkin’s three self-produced studio albums have struck a global chord. In 2022, fueled by his growing streaming and social media momentum, he assembled a live trio featuring Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Simon Moushabeck (keys, accordion, percussion) and Cuban-American drummer Washington Duke. Together, they breathe new life and dimension into Gitkin’s recorded material. Since then, the group has toured across the U.S., Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, France, and Austria—selling out multiple shows along the way. They’ve also supported acts like Steel Pulse, Say She She, The Altons, and Thee Sinseers.
After years of making songs where the vocals and lyrics take the spotlights, it's been liberating to let my guitar do the talking. With Gitkin I get to bring in my love for African, middle eastern and south american music and mix it with my native musicality that sits in American blues and funk.
Performing as a trio with my two talented compadres provides a lot of space in the music that opens the door for what I like to call "expensive moments." My favorite moments of a show don't usually happen by somebody playing something fast and impressive. More times It's when a palpable essence takes over the room. You feel it and you know everyone in the spot feels it. That's what keeps me getting in vans and planes and putting in endless hours in the studio.
As 2024 unfolds, Gitkin, in collaboration with the Brooklyn-based label Wonderwheel Recordings, is set to release highly anticipated new music. The singles will start dropping in May, followed by a full-length album in the fall. Additionally, they have live shows scheduled in the US and a festival tour planned in Europe for July.

The legacy
Dan Electro’s has been the Heights’ neighborhood stage since 1988. It all started with guitarist Teri Greene’s Tuesday Blues Jam and lives on today through host Shawn Allen, whose easy charisma keeps the night loose, inclusive, and absolutely electric. Every riff still echoes that original spirit of community and creative risk-taking.
For musicians
Show up with an instrument, add your name, and plug in around 7:30 PM. Blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and experimental grooves share equal airtime. Veterans swap wisdom, first-timers get genuine encouragement, and surprise guests lift the room higher. Think impromptu master class with a loving crowd. No cover, no ego—just pure collaboration.
For patrons
Not here to play? Perfect. Grab an ice-cold beer or a craft cocktail, slide into a vintage booth, and let Houston’s most eclectic soundtrack wash over you. From smooth jazz to blistering slide-guitar duels, every set feels like a mini-festival. Between songs the covered patio becomes a living social feed where locals, tourists, and pros trade stories under string lights. Tuesday slump cured.

Houston Music Classifieds is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that started in 2022 as a place to post daily show listings happening in the city. Since then, however, we have expanded from just posting live music events to hosting live music events ourselves. Creating a stronger sense of community within the Houston music scene is a part of our mission, so we strive to bring together musicians and music lovers alike. Another way we support the local scene is by posting interviews with up-and-coming Houston artists, as well as by posting other resources, such as information about local venues and open mics. We are so grateful for the support we have received from the community over the past couple years, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Houston music scene.
